Conductix Wampfler Transforms Hours of Work into Seconds
Conductix-Wampfler USA, a leading global manufacturer of energy and data transfer systems, transformed its manual, paper-based HR processes—such as time tracking, benefits management, and new hire paperwork—by partnering with Arcoro to implement automated HRIS modules that streamlined workflows, enabled employee self-service, and significantly reduced administrative workload, resulting in increased efficiency and employee satisfaction.
Conductix-Wampfler USA, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, is the largest global producer of systems and equipment for transferring energy and data in applications such as cranes, material handling equipment, people movers, light rail systems, amusement rides, and automated machines. The company operates two Omaha plants and a 110,000 square-foot facility in Harlan, Iowa.
Despite its manufacturing growth, Conductix-Wampfler's HR processes lagged behind, with many tasks still performed manually. Amber Chase, HR Business Partner, noted that employees tracked hours on paper, which were then approved by management and sent to payroll. Other processes, such as open enrollment and new hire events, also relied on manual paperwork.
Challenge
HR needed a way to manage a growing workforce without increasing workload. With essential staff retiring, automating processes became critical to prevent HR from being overwhelmed by paperwork. Transitioning from manual to automated processes was a significant change for staff, requiring some to adapt from paper-based methods to digital systems, such as accessing pay stubs online instead of receiving them from HR.
Solution
Conductix-Wampfler partnered with Arcoro to implement several modules that automated their most time-consuming HR processes:
-
Core HR, Benefits Management, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) Management: Arcoro’s Core HR streamlined processes and provided employee self-service technology. Employees could access pay information, PTO requests and balances, the employee handbook, and more through a portal. Custom workflows supported HR processes, increasing efficiency. Once employees became familiar with the HRIS, they appreciated the time savings and ease of use.
“It was really cool to see their eyes kind of light up with, wow, I didn’t think it was going be that easy, or, wow, this is saving me time,” Chase said. “We no longer have to have employees filling out manual papers for each individual [benefits] vendor. Instead, they do it in one place and from there it spits out to our various different vendors once a week. That alone has saved hours and hours and hours of not only HR’s time, but the employees’ time as well.”
-
ACA Module: This module automated reporting and filing, easing benefits administration and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. HR no longer needed to update these processes manually.
-
Annual Raises Automation: Core HR automated the process of implementing annual raises. Previously, Chase manually entered raises for 300 employees, a process that took 8–16 hours. With Core HR, she uploaded a spreadsheet and completed the task in seconds.
“And I'm not exaggerating when I say it was a five second process that used to be an eight-to-16-hour process. I couldn't wait to go into my boss's office and say, I just saved us 16 hours. By automating this process, having the freedom to go out and speak to employees and, and do more of that side of the HR job, which is what I think most of us probably enjoy more.”
-
Applicant Tracking and Employee Onboarding: These modules further automated tasks, saving HR significant time and allowing Chase to focus more on employee engagement.
“I love speaking to people versus pushing paper. (Arcoro’s solutions) allow me the freedom to be able to do that. And, and that's a big part of my job that I love.”
